Boston Red Sox moneyline (+100.0) L

$500.00 Pick documented: Thursday, 18 May 2017 12:23 PM

pick locked in 7 days ago

The American League East meets the american League West as the Boston Red Sox duke it out with the Oakland A’s at the Oakland Coliseum in Oakland, California in game one of their four-game-series. Pitching Probable: The Red Sox will send out Hector Velazquez in this one and he will be opposed by Sonny Gray. The A’s have been listed as favorites of -110, while the Red Sox are at +100. The total has been set at 9.

The Boston Red Sox Come in off a brief two-game series against the Cardinals on the road and they won both games. In game one they took a 6-3 decision and then on Wednesday night they won 5-4 in 13 innings. The Red Sox are now three games over .500 for the year and they are 4.0 games out of first in the American League East. The Sox are now 9-9 on the road, compared to 12-9 at home. The offense still has been a problem for this team, especially when it comes to hitting the longball as they are 29th in the league in homers with 34, after finishing 9th in the league in homers last year with 28. They were also tops in the league in scoring a year ago, but are just 20th this year. They look to get on track here vs a rather bad Oakland staff. The Pitching has not been bad for Boston this year as they are 8th in the league in ERA at 3.85. Getting the nod for the Red Sox in this one will be Hector Velazquez and this will be his major league debut. At Pawtucket (AAA) this year, he was 2-1 with a 1.55 ERA in five starts.

The Oakland A’s come in off a series in seattle, in which they lost two of the three games played. They are now just 6-15 on the road for the year, but they have gone a decent 11-8 here at home. The A’s are in last place in the American League West and are already 11.5 games out of first as the Astros are just running away with the division so far. The A’s really need to play well in this four game set or their season could already be over. The A’s have gone just 1-5 in their last six games overall and have allowed five runs or more in five of those games. That was all on the road and they do have a decent 3.90 ERA here at home for the year so far. THey have struggled some on offense at home as they have averaged just 4.11 rpg and they have hit just .210 against righties here at home for the year. Toring the rubber for the A’s will be Sonny Gray and he has gone 0-1 with a 3.78 ERA in three starts so far. Gray is 20-18 with a 3.55 ERA in 51 career starts here at the Coliseum and he is 0-2 with a 5.40 ERA in three career starts against the Red Sox.

The A’s have been a solid home team this year and they do have Sonny Gray on the mound, but he has struggled in his career against the Red Sox as he is 0-2 with a 5.40 ERA in three career starts against them. Boston comes in with some confidence after taking a couple of games in St Louis and they will be sending out Hector Velazquez, who is making his MLB debut and that gives him an edge, plus the A’s have hit just .210 at home against righties for the year. I look for the Red Sox to make it 10 wins in their last 11 meetings with the A’s.

Prediction: Boston +100
